Hawks too strong on the day for Grammarians Girls
Six nil up after half time, Hawks ladies slowed down to a near halt, but not enough to let Grammarians girls continue to feel the experience of being hammered by experience.
Grammarians Girls, who were once Hawks, were taught a lesson in how experience, discipline and power play can out do enthusiasm and pace on the day. Grammarians had to field a weaker side than normal due to some players, including their keeper missing on the day.
Brave though they were, the young Grammarians team were no match to Hawks who controlled the pace of the game throughout, to the point of pushing forward and scoring when they felt they had laid back too much. The Grammarians girls were, however, no walk over, keeping on tapping at the door throughout the match, although unable to score.
Stick to stick the veteran ladies from Hawks had greater power and skill, discipline across the pitch, overcoming the opposition by setting the pace and playing across the field rather than running after the ball. Grammarians found themselves chasing not just the match but the ball. An 8-0 score line told the whole story of what the match was all about on the day.
The score line on the day did not reflect the quality of the Grammarians girls who have held the Hawks to 1-0 in the past.
