This being the first international friendly match played by the Gibraltar national team on home soil since joing UEFA as its 54th member. The local side took the lead within the first quarter of an hour of the match but soon fizzled out and handed two easy goals to the Faroe Island. The latter missed a penalty in the first half leaving with a 2-1 score line lead. Gibraltar, whose performance was described as dissapointing by Manager Bula were beaten 4-1 by a Faroe Island selection who themselves were trying out a changed squad. Bula later questioned the fittness and desire of some player in the squad, stating that only five of six player gave a full performance, with the rest of the squad lacking in stamina. "even the 50-50 balls we were just handing over to them." The Faroe Island manager for his part was happy with the result and claimed his side should have scored more goals and deserved to win by the 4-1 scoreline.
