The Royal Anglian Regiment Freedom of the City Parade in Gibraltar
Gibraltar - 20th May 2017 - The Royal Anglian Regiment received the Honorary Freedom of the City of Gibraltar in November 2016. On Saturday 20th May they exercised their Freedom of the City by marching up Main Street. Prior to the March Past the troops formed in John Mackintosh Square where Her Worship the Mayor, Kaiane Aldorino Lopez GMH, former Miss World, inspected the troops.
The Royal Anglian Regiment, in an unprecedented move marched single file thorugh Irish Town towards their starting point for the actual Freedom of the City march through Main Street. The silent march through Irish Town was supported by a large deployment of armed police officers, ARVs and military police ensuring their safety through the narrow road.
On reaching the northern end of Main Street they proceeded to march down Main Street to the area of the Gibraltar Parliament where Mayor Kaiane Aldorino Lopez took the salute as the troops marched by.
Her Worship the Mayor hosted a reception at the City Hall afterwards.
