Gibraltar celebrates 100 years since the birth of Hassan
Gibraltar - 19th August 2015 - The Chief Minister of Gibraltar held a reception today at Kings Bastion where he revealed that Gibraltar will be celebrating 100 years since the birth of Sir Joshua Hassan by issuing later this year the first polymer 100 pound sterling bill, depicting the former Chief Minister of Gibraltar. The event saw the launch of a documentary video highlighting the work done by Sir Joshua Hassan who led Gibraltar for over 40 years, becoming the longest serving Chief Mnister of Gibraltar.
Fabian Picardo, the present Chief Minister, thanked the family of Sir Joshua Hassan for "sharing him with us" for so long before making the announcement that he has also instructed that a statue be build in his honour. The Chief Minister pointed out that there were status of past queens, Governors, generals and sappers but none of the person who had served the community for the longest and whose work had led to the present day Gibraltar.
The Fluer, Sir Joshua Hassan's daughter in an emotive speech, which brought tears to the eyes of the Chief Minister himself, thanked the community and those present for the way her father had been honoured.
